Lot Clearing for Homes, Builders and Developers

Whether you are preparing a homesite, a commercial property or a larger tract, the first job is the same: deciding what comes out and what stays. Giraffe Tree Service works with residential, commercial and municipal clients, and partners with developers and property managers on site preparation.

Residential lot clearing can mean taking out a few trees and a thicket of brush. Commercial lot clearing can mean working through a much larger property. We start by looking at the land with you, then match the equipment and the method to the site. Our crews run modern equipment, and for large trees or tight spots we bring in cranes and modern rigging equipment so trees can come down in controlled sections.

Who we clear lots for

  • Homeowners clearing a backyard, a wooded lot or an overgrown property they have just bought
  • Builders and developers who need a site cleared before other work begins
  • Property managers and business owners keeping larger properties safe and usable
  • Municipal clients with public property to maintain

What Our Lot Clearing Service Includes

Most land clearing jobs draw on a handful of services, and we will recommend the mix that fits your property.

Tree removal

Trees that are dead, hazardous or simply in the way come down. Our experienced crews handle the removals, including large or awkward trees near buildings and fences where careful rigging matters.

Brush hogging

For open ground choked with saplings, briars and heavy brush, brush hogging cuts the growth down so you can see the land again.

Forestry mulching

Forestry mulching uses a machine to shred brush and small trees into mulch that is left on the ground. It is a good fit when you want vegetation cleared without a pile of brush to deal with, though it is not the right method for every site.

Stump grinding and debris cleanup

Our stump grinding equipment handles stumps of any size and leaves the area ready for new planting. Crews clean up all debris and protect your landscaping while they work. For more on stumps, see our stump removal page.

Selective Clearing: Keeping the Trees Worth Keeping

Not every tree on a lot needs to go. Selective clearing removes the brush, the weak or dead trees and the ones in the way, and leaves the healthy trees that give a property its shade, privacy and character.

Selective clearing versus full clearing

Full clearing takes a lot down to open ground. It makes sense when the whole footprint will be used, such as a larger building site. Selective clearing is often the better choice for a home lot where a mature oak or a screen of pines is worth protecting. Many properties land somewhere in between, with open areas cleared and trees kept around the edges.

Looking after the trees that stay

Once the brush is gone, the remaining trees are easier to evaluate. Before recommending any service, we assess each tree's structure, canopy, root zone and overall vitality. Trees that stay may benefit from pruning, and the same crews can handle that. Heavy equipment can damage roots and low branches, so it matters to be clear about which trees are being protected.

How a Lot Clearing Job Works

Every lot is different, so the process starts with a conversation and a look at the property.

  1. Walk the lot. We look at the trees, the brush, the access and what is nearby, such as structures, fences and power lines.
  2. Decide what stays. You tell us how you plan to use the space and which trees you want to keep.
  3. Get a free estimate. Estimates are free, with no hidden fees, and we will talk through scheduling when we have seen the property.
  4. Clear the lot. Crews take down trees, cut or mulch the brush and grind stumps as needed.
  5. Clean up. We clean up all debris and protect your landscaping along the way.

Lot Clearing FAQs

Can you clear just part of my lot?

Yes. Clearing can cover a building area, a yard or a path and leave the rest of the trees untouched. Tell us what you plan to build or use the space for, and we will talk through which areas to clear and which trees to protect.

What is the difference between brush hogging and forestry mulching?

Brush hogging cuts growth down to a low height across open ground, usually leaving the cuttings where they fall. Forestry mulching shreds brush and small trees into mulch that stays on the ground. Which one fits depends on what is growing on the lot and how you plan to use it.

Should I mark the trees I want to keep?

Yes, and it helps to do it before work starts. We will walk the lot with you, point out healthy trees worth keeping and talk about how to protect them from equipment, so there are no surprises when crews arrive.

What should I tell you before clearing starts?

Mention anything hidden or off limits, such as fences, septic or irrigation lines, survey stakes and boundary lines you want respected. It also helps to move vehicles and outdoor items out of the work area so crews can plan around what is on the property.

Can the same crew help if a storm has already brought trees down on my lot?

Giraffe Tree Service offers 24/7 emergency response for fallen trees and hazardous limbs. Once the area is safe, the same crews can talk through clearing the rest of the property, including trees that are damaged or leaning.
